Puma Pattern Kreigsmarine (Navy) Dagger

This is a variation Navy pattern introduced by Puma in 1938. The crossguard featured scroll work and the national eagle. The pommel featured alternating oak leaf patterns. Standard model included a celluloid grip over wood with gilt wire wrap. The scabbard was the hammered pattern and featured two suspension bands of twisted rope with rings. Hilt and scabbard were gilted.

Cast brass gilted fittings, celuloid grip in white, blade buffer pad of felt, engraved steel blade. Originals were not RZM marked! Brass scabbard with applied bands, scabbard throat with wood liners. Throat secured by two headless screws from the sides.

The design was patented but never authorized. Also called the 3rd Model Navy and Special Naval Assualt Dagger. The design of the dagger appeared in both the Puma catalog in 1938 and in the July 1938 issue of "Die Klinge". Puma, Horster, and Pack are accepted makers. There are variations in the design of the crossguard and pommel produced by all three makers.
