1st model Kreigsmarine (Navy) Dagger
Authorized for wear by all Officers and NCOs in lieu of a sword. The straight crossguard featured a fouled anchor design. The pommel is flamed shaped and features reeds and cresting waves. Standard model included a celluloid grip over wood with gilt wire wrap. Ivory grips and Damascus/engraved blades were available as options. The scabbard could be engraved (lightning bolt or oak leaf patterns) or hammered and featured two suspension bands of overlapping oak leaves or twisted rope with rings. Normally seen with the engraved blade and engraved lightning bolt pattern scabbard. Hilt and scabbard were normally gilted.
Cast fittings, usually brass, celuloid grip in white or yellow, blade buffer pad of leather or felt, steel blade, usually engraved. Originals were not RZM marked! Brass scabbard with applied bands, scabbard throat with wood liners. Throat secured by one screw on the reverse center, or two screws from the sides. Screws can be headless, flat head, or dome head.
Some known makers include Eickhorn, Alcoso, WKC, Horster, and Puma. Only 14 makers produced Navy daggers.
