1st Model Luftwaffe (Air Force) Dagger
Authorized for wear by all Officers and Officer Candidates. Adopted in 1934/5. The downswept crossguard featured a brass pinwheel swastika. The flat pommel featured a matching swastika. Wooden grip and scabbard covered in blue leather. Grip wrapped with twisted gold or silver wire. Standard model included a plain blade. Damascus/engraved blades were available as options but are rare. The scabbard featured three plain fittings, the upper and middle with suspension rings.
Cast fittings, initially nickel, later aluminum and finally nickel or silver plated, blade buffer pad of leather, steel blade, usually nickel plated and maker marked or unmarked. Pressed steel scabbard with applied leather and fittings which match the crossguard/pommel material, two individual brass or zinc runners. Fittings secured by two screws from the sides. Screws are normally headless.
